Make Solar Power
The sun’s energy or the solar energy is the most abundant form of energy available on earth. The sun is capable of giving us more than heat and light. The sun has been one of the biggest factors dictating every living being’s stay on the earth. If we go the right path, we can harness more from the solar energy, like generating power for daily use.
What are the advantages of solar power?
The solar energy solution is gaining popularity amongst the alternate energy solutions.
• Green energy solution: When you look at the solar energy solution, you will realize that it uses absolutely no fuel other than the sun’s light. Moreover, it does not release into the atmosphere anything harmful.
• Cheapest power solution: First, the energy comes free. Then, the installation cost is a one-time cost. Finally, the investment is recovered within a few years of installation, making the power generated by solar energy absolutely free.
• Convenience of storage: You cannot store conventional power but you can store solar power for future use. The sun’s energy comes to rescue even in the times of darkness! Storing it also ensures a 24×7 supply of power, thus saving you from any power outage.
• Low on maintenance: The solar energy systems are easy to maintain. They do not involve high costs or too much effort, thus letting you reap the benefits of the solution comfortably.
How can solar power be used?
Solar power can be used in our everyday lives by adopting the following solar power systems:
• Solar cooking system: Solar cooking is about cooking without lighting a fire or using electricity! Before you wonder, let me tell you that solar cooking is not about bland food. You can cook in more ways than one – boil, roast, or bake, cook the way you want! The only demand that solar cooking makes of you is being patient; it is a matter of more than a few minutes. However, it is not asking for too much given that you will get tasteful and healthy food without worrying about paying your gas or electricity bill.
• Solar lighting system: You can now light up the entire house, use every electrical appliance without thinking about cutting down bills. The solar lighting system lights up your house even in the nights, thanks to the power storage feature it has.
• Solar heating system: You can keep your house cozy and warm using the solar heating system without worrying about costs.

How Much Power Do You Need Your Windmill To Make?
Posted in: Build A Windmill, Renewable Energy, Technical Stuff Tags: Build A Windmill, Solar Power, Tax Incentives, Technical Stuff, Wind Turbines
Do you know how much power you need to generate each month?
This is something you really need to know BEFORE you start to design your alternative system. If you don’t have this information, up front, you may be deeply disappointed in the generation plan that you ultimately choose. Fortunately, this is an easy task, and it doesn’t involve higher mathematics, either!
Watts going on here?
Electrical power consumption is measured in Watts. Each of your appliances has a power rating, generally in Watts if you live in the U.S. For example, if you were to run a typical clothes dryer for one hour, you’d use approximately 5000 Watts. A color television will use about 200 Watts per hour. Figure how many hours per month you use the appliance (say 20 hours for the dryer) and here’s how many watts you’ll have used:
5000 (Watts) x 20 hours = 100,000 watts or 100 kWh (kilowatt-hours).
If your utility company charges you 7.8 cents per kWh, then you pay $7.80/month – just for the dryer! Go do the same calculations for the rest of your electrical appliances, and you’ll see that the cost of electricity is no small number!
- Air Conditioner (12,000 BTU) = 1500 Watts x 200 hours/month = 300 kWh = $23.40 each month!
- 75 Watt light bulb = 75 Watts x 100 hours/month = 7.5 kWh = $.59 each month (for each bulb)!
- See http://www.cornhusker-power.com/householdappliances.asp for more electrical appliances and their electrical requirements.
Now, add up some of the power requirements of your favorite appliances, and you’ll get an idea of how many Watts of electrical energy your home needs at a point in time. For example;
- 6) 75 Watt Light bulbs = 450 Watts
- (1) Television = 200 Watts
- (1) Computer = 365 Watts
- (1) Electric Blanket = 175 Watts
- (1) Kitchen Clock = 3 Watts
————————————————————————————————————-
Total Watts required to operate all of these items at one time = 1,193 Watts
If you simultaneously used all of the above appliances for one hour they would use =1,193 Watt-Hours of electrical power. One windmill generator producing 1000 Watts would not quite be enough, and you’d have to draw down your batteries for this power.
This means the 1000 Watt windmill had a good chance to charge your batteries. If the batteries didn’t get a charge, you’ll be getting your power from the grid.
Given this hypothetical situation, you now have some factual data to determine what size of windmill you’d need to get, to satisfy all of your electrical requirements. This is a good starting point, for sure.
More bang for your alternative energy buck could be the installation of solar panels to supplement your windmill. There may be wind-less days (as well as cloudy days), no system will ever be 100%, but if you can store some energy in good times (through batteries), you may never have to use “the grid” again!

Build Your Own Wind Power System
Through the magic of the Internet, you can find many sources of information on how to build your own wind power system. As fossil fuel prices soar, many homeowners are looking for clean, renewable alternative sources of energy. And wind turbines, if sized correctly and set up properly, can save you a lot of money – and help keep our environment cleaner. It’s a win-win for all involved.
Many Options For Alternative Energy Systems
Over the past few years, many options for generating energy from alternative sources have been made available Depending upon your requirements, some of these natural and renewable energy systems can be installed in your home for under $1,000. One option, depending on weather conditions in your area can be a wind power system. Ready-made systems that can be bought today vary in price from $1000 to $10,000 (and up). So, building a homemade energy generating system may be a good choice for you, and could be the most efficient also.
Don’t forget – solar power can be a great option for alternative power generation
Need Some Plans
Building an alternative energy generating systems not as difficult as you might think, and you do not have to be an engineer to do it right. The good news is you can download sources of information and plans off the Internet with step-by-step guides that will show you exactly how to build your own wind power system.
Simple Or Complex – The Choice Is Yours
When designing and building your system, you can choose to back-up and storage batteries, AC or DC motors, properly sized hubs, blades, and other parts needed in making your environment-friendly, energy-generating device. All of this information is readily available and the technology is tried and true.
One of the best (and least expensive) sources of plans for building your own windmill is reviewed here. Don’t let the supposed complexity scare you out of making a great choice in alternative energy – read my review here!
Sell Excess Power Back To The Utility
Another advantage of generating your own electricity is that you can sell excess energy back to your utility when you are generating excess power through your existing grid connections. This built-in backup is great when something goes wrong with your electricity generating system and you can still tap into your utility power company to supply the needs of your electrical appliances. When you have excess power, you can sell it back to the grid to help other consumers, and save precious fossil fuels.
A Serious Alternative
Building your own wind power generating system has many advantages and should be considered seriously as an alternative to burning fossil fuels for electricity for many homeowners today. The technology is “mature,” costs have come way down – some studies have shown that home-generated electricity is now priced competitively with that of municipal power companies – and the environment will definitely benefit when less fossil fuel is burned.
In addition to wind power, solar power options have been on the upswing in recent years – thanks to efficiencies of scale and modern technology.

“I Thought Solar Power was Expensive (and Complicated).”
A few years ago, I started looking into solar energy. Just like you, I started with an online search exploring on how I could save money with solar electricity.
I was shocked to see how much it cost to have solar panels installed at my house! The estimate I received was over $35,000 and the payback time for that was just way too long. I certainly didn’t have that kind of money, not even close.
I was resigned to the idea of paying the electric company each and every month until I met a friend who had a solution. My friend explained that he was building his own solar panels for just a fraction of the cost of new retail solar panels. And he wasn’t alone.
I had no idea…
I had no idea that thousands of people were making their own solar panels. My friend had collected various drawings and “do-it-yourself ideas” but nothing was very organized and there wasn’t anything I could find online that gave me details on how to do it. There were people talking about it, but it wasn’t until my friend and I developed GreenDIYenergy that there was a step-by-step guide on the topic.
“Now There is an Easy-to-Follow Guide That Walks you Through Every Step-by-Step Process of Building Solar Energy.”
How much money can you save?
For too many years your only option was to buy retail solar panels at $1,125. With installation, that could Total Over $27,000 for your entire house!*
*2007 Installed Costs from ScienceDaily.com ($7.50/watt)
Now, with the help of this detailed “DIY Solar Panel” guide you can join the revolution of Do-It-Yourselfers who have figured out how to cheaply create their own solar power.
This DIY Guide will walk you through the step-by-step process of constructing 60- to 120- watt Solar Panels for under $200. You can easily do it for less than $100 if you do a little extra work in collecting materials.

Make Your own Electricity – Windmill Plans
The technology for building a home windmill to make some or all of your household electricity has really become practical in recent years. Until a few years ago if you wanted to build your own windmill it would have had to be a commercial unit costing $10,000 and up. Today with modern technology and improved do-it-yourself instructional aids, it’s possible to build a small wind turbine for as little as $200 for a basic, simple system. Of course, larger systems of the size that can support a full-sized home cost more.
In theory, a windmill (or wind turbine) is very simple. The wind acts upon the blades,( which are like little wings) and the blades in turn rotate a hub which is connected to an electric motor – or a generator, in this case. This direct current (DC) motor (generator) operates in reverse, generating electricity as it spins. The energy is then stored in batteries. When electricity is demanded, the current stored in the batteries goes through a small electrical device called a power inverter (which converts the DC electricity to alternating current – DC) which then goes to power lights and other electrical appliances..
The main parts of a windmill are as follows;
1. The Windmill or Wind Turbine. This often consists of 3 or more blades of widely varying radii attached to a hub that is also connected to a DC electric motor. This assembly (blades, hub and generator) are attached the the top of a tower that is at least 8 to 12 feet tall. A smalll fin is attached to the back of the generator to keep the blades facing into the wind.
2. Batteries. This a set of one or more deep cycle lead-acid batteries that store the generated power for later use.
3. Power Inverter. This electronic device converts the direct current (DC) that comes from the the batteries to alternating current (AC) that most household appliances require.
4.Controller. This electronic device prevents the batteries from being overcharged and damaged.
5. System Meter. This electronic gizmo monitors the amount of power available from the battery bank and how much power is being used at any given time. It can also direct excess power back into the “grid” for sale – at a profit to you!
Modern plans and equipment for building a home windmill can be simple and inexpensive for limited use, or large enough to power your entire household, if your finances and ability permit. A simple home electricity generating system wouldn’t have batteries to store excess power, or even make enough electricity to sell back to your utility. A larger, higher capacity (read: more expensive) system could power your entire home.
Building a windmill is not terribly complex, but it does require a good set of illustrated plans written by someone with direct hands-on experience building home windmills. Below, you’ll find links to some of the more popular home wind & solar energy plans and instructions available today
The technology is definitely available to suit most any ability and budget, and all varieties can be a lot of fun to build and operate.
Earth4Energy is probably the premier home wind & solar energy source for practical, do-it-yourself plans and expertise.
You won’t find information like this at your library, and the great news? If you’re not 100% satisfied, you’ll get a full refund!

Make Green Electricity With A Windmill
Just when the world is looking for innovative and efficient ways to cope with the latest energy crisis, what should we do? We need to begin by being more efficient the power we have and start generating more power using alternate and creative power solutions like solar and wind power systems.
Building a home windmill for your home is not considered very cheap; but, it turns out a huge money saver in the long run when the cost of producing power becomes zero. It has been observed lately that people are implementing wind power solutions even at places with the average speed of power less than 11 miles per hour. Ideally, the average speed of wind at the site you propose to set up the windmill at should be 11 miles per hour, but a slightly lower average is also reaping good results for people.
One thing that discourages people from setting up their own windmill is usually the initial cost. However, you can set up a windmill at your home for a much less price, if you know some “secrets.” It is, however, important to consider certain things while setting up a windmill on your own.
• Get good plans tobuild your windmill at home. Keep in mind the output you want the windmill to generate.
• Look for sturdy and reliable components. Your homemade windmill should not be easily damaged by heavy winds.
• Compare the prices of all the equipment in the market and go for the components that suit your budget and your site.
When looking for windmill plans, look for the following features:
• Illustrations: Visual aids work better than plain text. If your windmill guide has illustrative descriptions for making a windmill, it makes your task easier.
• Easy language: If your windmill-making guide uses a lot of jargon and technical information, it is better to look for a different one. Look for one that has easy-to-understand language making your task fluid.
• Component descriptions: Your homemade windmill guide should be able to provide you with detailed visual and textual descriptions of all the components you need to use. It is also important that the guide tells you which type of component works best for a site like yours.
• Local information: If your guide gives you information about the best available equipment in Europe while you are reading it from a location deep in western USA, your guide may bes useless. Look for a guide that provides equipment information from locations near you.
